Jim is a musician and author whose unique style was developed over twenty years of directing programs for children and families.  Jim has released seven award-winning CDs of musical play for young children that are favorites in families and schools.

Share the Joy - Family Concert

Monday, July 2, 3-4 PM in the Large Meeting Room 
Sing and laugh with Jim Gill, a nationally-known musician-educator, as he entertains us with his unique style of combining wordplay and movement into songs.




  1. PICK UP a Summer Reading Log at your Library. One per person. LAST DAY to pick up logs is AUG 19. Ends AUG 31.
  1. THE LOG. Color in one circle for every half hour you read or listen to a book (audio books are OK).
  1. PRIZES! When you’ve reached a specific level on the log, come to the Library and collect your prize.
  1. THE END. Prizes must be collected by AUG 31.

JUNE 26: CREATING MOSAICS with Leslie Snoke, Missoula art teacher    

Create your own mosaic out of a variety of intriguing materials.

*This event will take place Monday 3-4 instead of 2-3*
JULY 2: MAKING MUSIC with Jim Gill, musician and early literacy star      

Jim is a nationally-known artist who will show us how delightful it is to learn through movement and song.

JULY 10: EXPLORING FOSSILS with Kallie Moore, UM paleontologist

An awesome scientist will show us the wondrous things we can learn by digging up the past.

In cooperation with Missoula Food Bank, we will have free lunch and activities for kids and their caregivers throughout the summer. Activities are sponsored by: MPL, SpectrUM, Missoula Food Bank, and a fun variety of Missoula organizations.


Play = Learning! Through play your child develops literacy and social skills.

Tiny Tales is for babies and toddlers ages 0 to 3.

Storytime is for preschoolers ages 3 to 6.


Lego Club

Please join us every Thursday from 3:30-5 PM on the Dragon Rug in the Children's Department. Lego and Duplo pieces provided. The only thing you need to bring is your imagination! Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.


Special events occur throughout the year. You can watch for these during National Library Week in April, National Library Card Sign-up Month in September, Banned Books Week in October, and more.

Events include make and take crafts, our annual Christmas cookie decorating and craft event, a Teddy Bear Sleepover, Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration, and a Peeps contest.
